Joy

What is joy?
Pleasure? Happiness? Bliss?
Joy is not pleasure
For pleasure is body-centric, animalistic.
Joy is not happiness
For happiness is competitive, egoistic.
Joy dwells beyond these realms
For it is bliss;
It is soulful, spiritual.

Joy does not come
From money, power, prestige, sex.
Does not it come either
From physical comforts, material wellbeing.
It comes from within,
In sweet little things’ everyday life:

A child’s innocent smile,
In chirping blithe little birds,
The rising sun’s majestic brilliance,
A starry night’s whisper of silence,
Lush ripple of an early morning breeze,
Rain drops on a blooming bud’s lips,
The cool content of a job well done.

Joy comes from every act of giving,
From wiping every tear,
Bringing smile upon others,
Seeing His intent in every act
And living an attitude of gratitude.
